ELKINS -- The candidates in the upcoming Elkins Municipal Election have been invited to take part in a "Meet and Mingle" event this month.
The event will take place Thursday, May 18, from 5-7 p.m. at the El Gran Sabor restaurant, located at 413 Kerens Ave.
The event will allow residents to speak to the candidates and discuss their concerns for the city.
The "Meet and Mingle" event is sponsored by the Randolph County Democratic Women and the Randolph County Democratic Executive Committee. The event is open to all candidates regardless of party affiliation.
Light refreshments will be served and a cash bar will be available.
Fourteen candidates will be on the Elkins ballot in the June 13 city election. Early voting is set to begin on May 31.
Incumbent Jerry Marco was the only person to file to be on the ballot running for the position of mayor.
There will be a total of seven city council seats on the ballot.
Four people have filed for the First Ward council seat currently held by Judy Guye, although Guye did not file to run for re-election. The four candidates to file for the First Ward council seat are Michael C. Elza, Pat Varchetto, Phillips Kolsun and Cody Kerns.
Incumbent Mike Hinchman has filed for re-election in Second Ward. The term for this seat will end in 2027.
Chris Lowther, an incumbent Third Ward council member, has also filed for re-election. This term will also end in 2027.
Elizabeth Marshall-MacVean and Andrew Carroll both filed to run for a Fourth Ward city council seat. Fourth Ward incumbent Marilyn Cuonzo did not file to run for re-election.
The ballot will feature three Fifth Ward candidates, including incumbent Linda Vest, former state Delegate Cody Thompson and Burley Wood.
An additional seat in Second Ward and another in Third Ward on the ballot will be for a term of just two years, as the current council members were appointed to those seats after a previous representative stepped down.
Lisa Severino, who was appointed to a Second Ward seat last year, has filed to be on the ballot for the position. The term for that seat will end in 2025.
Chad Griggs, who was appointed to the Third Ward seat, did not file to run in the election. However, Erika Plishka has filed to run for that Third Ward seat.
