HUTTONSVILLE -- A man is facing a drug charge after Randolph County Sheriff's Office deputies were investigating a shots fired call on Point Mountain Road.
According to a press release from the sheriff's office, Gary Cool is being charged with possession of a controlled substance. According to the press release, on Sunday, Deputy Pingley and Sergeant Cogar were responding to a shots fired call on Point Mountain Road.
"The caller advised they heard a single gunshot near their residence," the release states. "A family member went outside to investigate and saw two 4-wheelers. One of the 4-wheelers had a trailer attached. The family member identified one of the drivers as Gary Cool. The 4-wheelers then continued in the direction of Huttonsville."
It states in the release, Cool is a convicted felon and is not allowed to possess a firearm. As the officers were driving on Route 219 between the Huttonsville Par-Mar and Becky's Creek Road, they saw a 4-wheeler with an attached trailer traveling towards Huttonsville. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and the driver was identified as Cool.
According to the release, as Cool was being searched for a firearm, officers found a clear crystal-like substance in his pants pocket. Cool told the officers it was methamphetamine. Cool also told officers "he had also had crushed meth in some five-dollar bills in his possession. The items were moved and placed into an evidence bag. Cool was arrested and transported to the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
