MILL CREEK -- Mill Creek's mayor survived a challenge during Tuesday's municipal election, and the town elected a new city council member.
Incumbent mayor Gary Coffman was re-elected with 56 votes, beating out opponent Bill Brock.Write-in candidate Julie Light won a seat on Mill Creek Town Council with 27 votes. Light will be taking the council seat of incumbent Debbie Williams, who also ran as a write-in and received 16 votes.
Incumbent council members Tom Proudfoot, Micheal Parrack, Kathy Stalnacker and Greg Teter were all re-elected. Proudfoot received 58 votes, Parrack totaled 47, Stalnacker garnered 52, and Teter received 53.
Caroline Meade ran unopposed as recorder.

Meanwhile, Huttonsville voters re-elected mayor Reuban Currence, who had to run as a write-in candidate in Tuesday's election. He received 10 votes.
No names were on the ballot for the Huttonsville municipal election on Tuesday, as the incumbent mayor and town council members had to run as official write-ins after they all missed the deadline to register as candidates.
Incumbent council members Marvella Currence, Jedson Liggett, Lisa Shrader and Suzanne Thompson, all running as write-ins, were also re-elected. Currence received 11 votes, Liggett totaled 11, Shrader garnered 10, and Thompson received 10.
Incumbent council member Jenny Lanham, who had previously been reported as running for re-election as a write-in, was later found to be ineligible to run due to not turning in her forms to apply as a write-in candidate, Mayor Currence told The Inter-Mountain. No one was elected to the fifth town council position.
The vacant council seat will be filled by appointment at the next town council meeting.
