Officials certify results of 2023 Elkins Municipal Election

ELKINS -- The results of the 2023 Elkins Municipal Election were certified Thursday during a special meeting of the city's canvassing board.
No recounts were requested by the 1:30 p.m. start of the meeting, so the results were certified as the final, official results of the election.
During Monday's canvass of the city election, several adjustments were made to the vote totals, but none of them affected any of the outcomes of the races.
The adjustments included three additional votes for Mayor Jerry Marco, who was running for reelection unopposed; one additional vote for Cody Kerns, who was elected to a First Ward seat on Elkins City Council; and one additional vote for Andrew Carroll, who was elected to a Fourth Ward seat on council.
At Thursday's certification meeting, Lisa Severino, who was elected to a two-year Second Ward seat on council, was sworn into office, as she will be unavailable to be sworn in next week.
The other officials elected in the June 13 election will be sworn in during a special ceremony Thursday, June 29 at 7 p.m. at Elkins City Hall.
The official results of the election are:
Marco, running unopposed, received a total of 521 votes across the city's five wards.
In First Ward, Kerns received 115 votes, triumphing over three candidates: Phillips B. Kolsun, who garnered 64 votes; Michael C. Elza, who totaled 40; and Pat Varchetto, who received 34.
In Second Ward, incumbent Mike Hinchman received 49 votes for the four-year seat on the ballot. Severino totaled 48 votes for the two-year Second Ward seat on the ballot.
In Third Ward, incumbent Chris Lowther totaled 24 votes for the four-year seat on the ballot. Newcomer Erika Plishka, running unopposed, totaled 19 votes for the two-year Third Ward seat on the ballot.
In Fourth Ward, Carroll received 89 votes, beating out Liz Marshall-MacVean, who totaled 50.
In Fifth Ward, Cody Thompson received 54 votes, ousting incumbent Linda Vest, who received 24 votes, and also defeating Burley Woods, who garnered 34.
