BEVERLY -- "It's time to get the kids outside!" says the Mountaineer Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America, who will be hosting a free Youth Conservation Day on Saturday, July 22.
The Mountaineer Chapter of the IWLA will be hosting a free Youth Conservation Day with several outdoor learning stations at the IWLA clubhouse in Beverly. The free event is open for all kids ages 8 to 17. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with registration for the event beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The Saturday event will have several outdoor learning stations for the kids, including air rifle shooting, fishing, skeet shooting, archery and more. There is also a plan to invite the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources to demonstrate stream servicing ,but that has yet to be determined. Lunch will be served for participants as well.
The Mountaineer Chapter of IWLA hosted its annual JAKES Day on June 24 and plans to have more events for kids and families throughout the year.
"We generally have five or six activities for the kids every summer," President of the Mountaineer Chapter Ray Mearns told The Inter-Mountain. "Weather permitting, we want to have a big family camp-out event later this year."
All Youth Conservation Day participants are asked to bring rubber boots and wear proper clothing for the day's weather.
The Mountaineer Chapter of IWLA hopes to see many kids there and asks participants to bring a friend.
"We want to have as many kids as we can," said Mearns.
