ELKINS -- Two local organizations are coming together to bring unique rides to the Elkins-Randolph County Airport Saturday.
The Airplanes & Automobiles show, which will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will give local residents the opportunity to see unique vehicles and airplanes up close.
The Elkins EAA Chapter 1530 and Mountain State Street Machines have teamed up for Saturday's show. Stanley Ricottilli, with EAA Chapter 1530, said the event will feature both classic cars and airplanes.
"We thought it would be really neat to get together with the car club and let people see some cool planes and cars," Ricottilli said. "Admission is free. We want to get people out to the airport. We are trying to open up more and get more interest in aviation."
He said no flights will be offered during the event, but he noted some planes may make use of the airport during the event.
"We hope some planes will be flying in," Ricottilli said. "We are hoping to get people to come in and walk through."
In addition to the planes and cars, the event will feature food vendors, a raffle and 50-50 drawings throughout the day. Attendees will be on hand to help with parking, and there will be two gates utilized, one for visitors and one for the classic cars.
"We are not sure what type of aircraft and cars that will come out," Ricottilli said. "There are a lot of younger kids that have never seen an airplane up close and this will give them the opportunity. It may help kids pick aviation as a career."
Ricottilli added that this event will be the first Airplanes & Automobiles Show since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
