Belington to host Old-Fashioned Days this weekend

BELINGTON -- The City of Belington will host the annual Old-Fashioned Days Friday and Saturday.
A new addition to this year's event will be the Dino-ROAR Touring Dinosaur Show. Those shows will take place on Saturday at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
"We are very excited to have the Dino-ROAR event," Belington Mayor Cherri Sturm told The Inter-Mountain. "It should be a great show for both the children and adults alike."
A full day of entertainment is also planned on Saturday, with John Bolton taking the stage from 1 to 2:30 p.m., the Sago River String Band (3 to 4 p.m.) and Full Cirkle (6 to 8 p.m.).
A car show will be offered from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and vendors and bouncing houses will be set up from 1 to 6 p.m.
At 2 p.m., a cake walk will be held and a parade and pet parade is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
"We are inviting all organizations, sports groups, marching groups, churches and more to join us and help us bring back the 'old-fashioned parade' from the past that everyone enjoyed," Sturm said. "We will also be adding a pet section this year, so dress up your pet and bring them to participate."
On Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m., the Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad will be offering a special train ride that will depart from the Golden Rule building, travel to Tygart Junction and return. The train will return at 7:15 p.m. on both days.
The train rides are being offered as a fundraiser to support the Belington Revitalization Committee's efforts in Belington, at the Golden Rule Building and throughout town. All proceeds -- minus booking fees and taxes -- will go to this cause.
Tickets are still available with differing costs for adults, seniors, veterans, and childre ages 4-11. Children under 4 ride for free but a ticket still must be reserved for them. Any still-available seats will be available for purchase at the Golden Rule the day of the ride.
The Golden Rule Building was built in 1903 and used the backdoor railroad access to run a wholesale grocery business called Valley Grocery before it became the Golden Rule Department store around 1930. Historic items and furniture are now on display in the newly rehabilitated building.
