BEVERLY -- A Beverly man was arrested after allegedly shooting another individual in the Beaver Creek area of Randolph County Thursday night.
Wesley William Burgess, 31, was taken into custody after the shooting and has been charged with wanton endangerment and malicious wounding, both felonies.
Early Friday morning, Burgess was transported to the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, where he is awaiting arraignment.
According to Randolph County Sheriff Rob Elbon, Burgess was one of the four suspects that were taken into custody by the West Virginia State Police Thursday night.
"We had a shooting up in Beaver Creek, up Howell Hollow in Beverly," said Elbon. "A call came in for any available officers to respond and the sheriff's office along with the state police infiltrated the area where it happened."
Elbon said the alleged victim in the shooting, Brian Vance, had jumped in a pickup truck after he was shot and was being transported down the road to Davis Medical Center when the vehicle he was in broke down.
"The truck he was in on the way to the hospital broke down and ended up at Sheetz on the Beverly Five-lane," said Elbon. "I went there and got as much information from the victim as possible. In the meantime someone else picked the victim up and took him the rest of the way to the hospital by a private vehicle."
Elbon said the driver of the truck that was transporting the victim was a witness to the alleged shooting and provided the sheriff with information about the shooting suspect's truck.
"After I talked to that driver of the pickup truck that broke down, he let us know the suspect was driving a black Ford dually truck," said Elbon. "So I put that information out and a state trooper came across the truck at the Pumpkintown 151 intersection. The state police officer pulled the vehicle over and held them until help could get there to process everything."
Elbon said of the four people that were detained Thursday night, three were males and one female.
"They took them all back to the barracks to interview them and talk to them," said Elbon. "I saw this morning that the regional jail had one of them in custody, Wesley Burgess."
Elbon said that the victim, Vance, was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital by Healthnet Thursday night. His condition was unknown on Friday.
