ELKINS -- The Elkins-Randolph County YMCA and Davis & Elkins College will host a community celebration featuring a pair of music acts on Friday, Aug. 25 at the Citizens Bank of West Virginia Amphitheater.

The headlining performers for the concert will be the Davisson Brothers Band, while Shane Meade and the Sound will be the opening act. Gates for the event will open at 6 p.m. and the concert will get underway at 7 p.m.

"We are excited to partner again with Davis & Elkins College and our sponsors to bring a fun night of entertainment to the Elkins community," YMCA Executive Director Sid Gillispie told The Inter-Mountain. "The proceeds from the concert support the Y's scholarship programs, so this event really gives back to the community."

The event will be free of charge and will also feature food vendors and a beverage area.

"We will have a tent with adult beverages set up, along with some places to get sandwiches and other things like that," said Gillispie. "It's going to be a great event and we are hoping the weather cooperates so we can have it outdoors.

"In the event it does rain, we will move the concert to Harper-McNeely Auditorium, which is also on the campus of D&E."

The Davisson Brothers Band is a genre-blurring Americana group formed in Clarksburg. Since their founding in 2006, the band has recorded three albums, been celebrated as a Highway Find on Sirius XM, and charted on country radio with their song "Foot Stompin."

Shane Meade, who is an Elkins native and D&E College alum, is a gifted singer and songwriter. Meade is the catalyst behind the soul-infused folk rock project Shane Meade & the Sound. The band combines infectious vocals with feel-good grooves, and has the uncanny ability of turning even the largest of venues into an intimate musical experience.

"A lot of people around the area really like both the bands we have performing," Gillispie said. "They are a little bit different in their sound with Shane Meade and the Sound having kind of that Dave Matthews sound, while the Davisson Brothers are kind of country-rock."

This will be the sixth time that the YMCA has partnered with area businesses to sponsor an event at Davis & Elkins College. Sponsors for the upcoming concert include Blue Ridge Risk Partners, Citizens Bank of West Virginia, Davis & Elkins College, Davis Health System, Davis Trust Company, Elkins Auto, J.F. Allen Company, MegaCorp Logistics, Mountain Valley Bank, Northern Eagle Distributing and the Randolph County Commission.

"This has been a landmark anniversary year for a number of local organizations," said Davis & Elkins College Vice President for Institutional Advancement Scott Goddard. "The Augusta Heritage Center celebrated its 50th year this summer and the Mountain State Forest Festival will celebrate 85 years this fall."

Gillispie said the concert could possibly turn into an annual event that the YMCA and Davis & Elkins College present every summer.

"We have other local artists and performers that would love to play, but we just wanted to try this out with two bands this year," he said. "We are going to see what kind of response we get, and if it goes well, we will probably try to start doing it once a year."
