U.S. 219, Seneca Trail in Tucker County was closed repeatedly from mid-July through last week due to continuing Corridor H construction.

ELKINS — The West Virginia Department of Transportation’s Division of Highways has announced that the major delays drivers have experienced since early July on U.S. 219 due to the continued construction on Corridor H are over.

“The project is complete and (the DOH) anticipates no further road closures,” a DOH press release states.

The stretch of road — U.S. 219, Seneca Trail in Tucker County, approximately 2.7 miles north of the Randolph County line and approximately a mile south of Route 219/10 — was closed repeatedly from mid-July through last week as the work of placing beams and building an overhead bridge for Corridor H progressed.

“The next project will be on the opposite side of U.S. 219, and it has been predicted (there will be) no further road closures,” the DOH press release states.

The release is signed by James T. Collins, P.E., Interim District Engineer.

On June 9, Gov. Jim Justice joined other state and local officials at a groundbreaking ceremony for a nearly $50 million section of Corridor H in Tucker County.

“I have said it over and over and over, Corridor H is the most important of them all,” Justice said during the ceremony. “Some way, somehow, we are going to be under contract to have Corridor H done, before I leave office. We’re going to finish this road.”

The new construction announced June 9 will be the third phase of the Kerens to Parsons section of Corridor H.

Construction for the section of the road will be done by A.L.L. Construction Inc. of Mount Storm, who submitted the successful bid of $49,488,494. Work will consist of grading and drainage work on an approximately three-mile section of Corridor H beginning near the Cheat River Bridge, which is currently under construction.

At 3,300 feet, the Cheat River Bridge will be among the longest bridges in West Virginia when completed. The four-lane bridge will link the 15-mile stretch of Corridor H between Kerens and Parsons with the section between Parsons and Davis.

Starting at $3.92/week.
