ELKINS – The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a student overdose that happened at Elkins High School on Wednesday, officials said.
Randolph County Sheriff Rob Elbon told The Inter-Mountain today that a student from the school was sent to Davis Medical Center on Wednesday after ingesting some type of gummies at the school.
Elbon said officials are currently testing the gummies to see what drugs they might contain.
Because of the incident, Randolph County Sheriff’s deputies made an unannounced visit to Elkins High School on Thursday.
A K-9 officer swept the school Thursday morning, attempted to sniff out any drugs in the facility.
Nothing was located during the search Thursday, Elbon said, but three students, who were suspected of ingesting some of the gummies, were transported to DMC.
“The students were sent to the hospital just as a precaution,” Elbon told The Inter-Mountain. “We wanted to make sure everything was OK with them and nobody overdosed today.”
Elbon said to the best of his knowledge, the student who was taken to the hospital on Wednesday is doing better. The incident is still under investigation by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.
