ELKINS -- Four Randolph County high school students attended American Legion Mountaineer Boys State at Jacksons Mill this summer.
This year's participants included Ashton White, Elliot Hart, Justin Brazau and Luke Malcomb.
Brazau, son of Lindsay Newton and Lee Mullenax, is a student at Elkins High School, where he is a member of the youth bowling league, EHS drumline, EHS band, Humane Society club, indoor percussion, and the EHS jazz band.
Brazau plans to attend college to earn a bachelor's and master's degree in criminal law behavioral psychology, in order to become a criminal profiler for the FBI.
Hart, son of Jeffrey and Angela Hart, is a student at Elkins High School, where he is a member of the EHS band, indoor drumline and EHS soccer team, as well as the YMCA basketball league.
He attends St Brendan Catholic Church, and after graduation he plans to attend West Virginia University and join the WVU Marching Band. He wants to find a program that involves working in the automotive mechanic industry, and is considering joining a drum corps for more experience in drumming.
Malcomb, son of William and Kelly Malcolmb, is a student at Tygarts Valley High School, where he is a member of the National Honor Society and plays for the TVHS football team.
After graduation, he plans to attend college to study sports marketing.
White, son of Jeff and Tonya White, is a student at Elkins High School. He is a member of the National Honor Society, National Society of High School Scholars, the EHS swim team, track team and bike team, is in the robotics club, and participates in Math Field Day and Science Bowl.
After graduation, he plans to attend either the U.S. Air Force Academy or the U.S. Naval Academy and earn a degree in aerospace engineering.
American Legion Mountaineer Boys State at Jacksons Mill is an honors, leadership and citizenship Academy which has existed since 1936 to teach good government through participation by the outstanding male high school junior class members throughout West Virginia.
Students attending the camp are exposed to the rights, privileges, duties and responsibilities of a franchised citizen. They learn objectives and practical applications of city, county and state government by being elected to various offices.
Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, boards and recreational programs.
