ELKINS -- Mountain State Forest Festival Director General Jon Morgan announces the application period for the 2023 Parade of Children is open.
This year, the parade theme is, "Wild, Wild West Virginia" and the Parade of Children will be sponsored by Colonial Motors.
The Parade of Children is set to take place on Sunday, Oct. 1, with a 2:30 p.m. step-off time. Parade line-up begins at 1 p.m.
The deadline for registration is Tuesday, Sept. 26. Applicants will receive notification when the application has been received.
The general rules and regulations for participation in the Parade of Children are as follows: group or individuals may participate in the parade; costumes will not be judged; twirlettes will be exhibition only; no motorized vehicles will be allowed in the parade, including pick-up trucks, flatbed trucks, cars, four wheelers, mules, etc.
The only exception will be one vehicle permitted for each twirlette or dance group for the purpose of music; pre-registration is required for all organizations with a vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle will be required to submit a valid driver's license and proof of insurance (participation will not be permitted without this information). This information should be forwarded with application by Sept. 22. Driver's license and proof of insurance can be emailed to contact@forestfestival.com.
It is suggested that costumes reflect the theme of the parade "Wild, Wild West Virginia"; no political, controversial, or business advertisement may be represented in the Children's Parade.
All entrants must obey the instruction of the parade officials to prevent delays in the parade. These officials will be properly identified and have authority to disqualify or eject entrants from the parade; businesses or organizations may enter their mascots in the parade; failure to comply with the rules and regulations may result in disqualification or ejection from the parade and removal from future participation; the Mountain State Forest Festival reserves the right to screen and reject or approve all entries.
The entertainment and enjoyment of the parade viewers is of the utmost importance; and candy cannot be thrown along the parade route; however, it can be handed out.
Parade of Children applications along with the General Rules and Regulations for the parade can be found on the Mountain State Forest Festival's website. Forms must be completed by Sept. 26.
The 85th edition of the Mountain State Forest Festival with the theme "Endlessly Wild and Wonderful" will take place from Saturday, Sept. 30 through Sunday, Oct. 8.
