PARSONS -- A Parsons man is facing an additional charge after he allegedly beat a woman and told her not to testify in court in an ongoing sexual assault case in Tucker County.
Jasper Wayne Snyder, 25, of Parsons, is being charged with a felony count of intimidation of jurors and witnesses. Snyder is currently lodged in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $10,000 cash or surety bond set by Tucker County Magistrate Brian Wilfong.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Randolph County Magistrate Court by West Virginia State Police Trooper B.K. Riffle, on July 17, he received a call from Trooper C.A. Hawkins stating the alleged victim sent him an email claiming Snyder had been beating her since he was released from bond a week earlier. A statement was taken from the alleged victim after a preliminary hearing for an active and ongoing sexual assault case involving the alleged victim and Snyder in Tucker County.
In July, Snyder was charged with felony counts of sexual assault and strangulation after allegedly sexually assaulting and strangling a woman. A $25,000 cash or surety bond was set by Wilfong on those charges.
"The (alleged) victim stated she had seen the defendant around her apartment the day before and she had sent a text to a friend that she was worried the defendant (Snyder) was going to hurt her before court," the new complaint states. "The (alleged) victim stated she went to the fire tower in Randolph County and she did not see anyone following her so she thought everything was fine."
According to the complaint, the alleged victim then looked in her rearview mirror and saw a car behind her.
"The (alleged) victim stated she had the windows rolled down in her Jeep and the defendant (Snyder) grabbed her through the window and told her that she couldn't testify in court," the complaint states. "The (alleged) victim stated the defendant (Snyder) started hitting her in her side and then kicked her."
According to the complaint, the alleged victim said Snyder had something in his hand but she could not tell what the item was. The alleged victim said Snyder tried to hit her with the object, but she blocked it and it hit her arm. The alleged victim said Snyder told her again that she could not testify in court or she would "get hurt."
The complaint states the victim had visible marks on her left elbow and multiple purple bruises to her left side.
