ELKINS -- a 15-year volunteer with the Elkins Depot Welcome Center CVB has been honored with the Ed Griesel Volunteer of the Year Award.

The Welcome Center CVB presented their annual volunteer appreciation event on July 19. This yearly event honors the volunteer team for their service to the Welcome Center and their integral role in the organization's success.

A highlight each year is the presentation of the Ed Griesel Volunteer of the Year Award. The award is given annually to an individual who has shown exceptional service to the community members of Elkins, Randolph County and its visitors.

This year the award was presented to Tom Rosier.

"This year's awardee is someone who has been a part of the Welcome Center as a volunteer for 15 years and a member of the Board of Directors for six years," said Welcome Center Board Member Ed Griesel.

"He contributed almost 800 hours of service to the Welcome Center this past year. He exemplifies the meaning of volunteerism and graciously gives of his time to the organization".

Anne Beardslee, executive director of the Welcome Center, added, "He has been wonderful about filling in whenever we have been short-handed, and is a major contributor to the success of the Christmas light display in Town Square.

"The volunteer workers at the Welcome Center are the reason we are able to offer services to the public seven days per week," she said. "The professionalism they exhibit and the hospitality they provide to quests is one of the reasons that people return to Randolph County - they feel welcome and appreciated. Their contributions to this county play a tremendous role in the continuous growth of the tourism economy."

The Welcome Center is currently operating and helping guests and residents with educational and recreational options for local activities seven days per week, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Volunteers typically work half-day shifts that fit into their schedules. New volunteers are always welcome.
