ELKINS -- An inmate from the Pruntytown Correctional Center who escaped while on work release in the area on Friday was still evading capture as of Sunday afternoon.
According to Randolph County Sheriff Rob Elbon, the escapee Denver Bennett, was still at large two days after his escape and that police are requesting that local residents keep an eye open for the 30 year-old male.
"If anyone happens to spot him (Bennett), call 911 so we can get rolling to the area," said Elbon. "He knows the area well and knows how to use that to his advantage."
Bennett, who is from Valley Head, was in town helping the city with preparations for the Mountain State Forest Festival when he fled. He was last seen wearing Khaki pants and a T-shirt.
Bennett was indicted by the Randolph County grand jury in March of 2022 on one count of burglary, a felony, and one count of petit larceny, a misdemeanor. He was also named in a separate and unrelated indictment where he received one count of receiving stolen goods, a felony, one count of fleeing in a vehicle with reckless indifference, a felony, and one count of fleeing from an officer by any means other than the use of a vehicle, a misdemeanor.
