PHILIPPI - A man was arrested and charged with first degree murder following a fatal stabbing in Barbour County Wednesday morning, police said.
Brian E. Kennedy will be held without bail until he can appear before a circuit judge on the murder charge, Barbour County Prosecutor Drew Phillips and Philippi Police Chief S.A. Miller told media outlets.
Officers from the Barbour County Sheriff's Office and the West Virginia State Police responded to the scene in the Dayton Park area of Philippi at about 10:10 a.m., police said. They found a woman dead at the scene, apparently from stabbing.
Kennedy was taken into custody at the scene, police said.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and further charges may be filed.
