Pocahontas County students tested at or above state average
MARLINTON — Pocahontas County students tested at the state average for English Language Arts, and slightly above the state average for math, according to the state’s Balanced Scorecard results for the 2022-23 school year.
As a whole, Pocahontas County’s public school students tested at 55% in English Language Arts, which partially met the standard. Statewide, students tested at 55%, which partially met the standard also.
Pocahontas students tested at 52% in math, which partially met the the standard. Statewide, students tested at 51% in math, which also partially met the standard.
The statistics were released as part of the statewide Balanced Scorecard, provided by the West Virginia Department of Education. The Balanced Scorecard process has been in place since the 2017-18 school year.
On the grade school level, Hillsboro Elementary School partially met the standard for English Language Arts, at 57%, and for math, at 60%.
Marlinton Elementary partially met the standard for English Language Arts, at 58%, and for math, at 57%.
Green Bank Middle/Elementary did not meet the standard for English Language Arts, at 48%, or for math, at 46%.
Marlinton Middle School partially met the standard for English Language Arts, at 61%, and for math, at 56%.
Pocahontas County High School did not meet the standard for English Language Arts, at 49%, or for math, at 47%.
According to the Balanced Scorecard, Pocahontas County’s public schools have a total enrollment of 916. The county’s attendance rate is 91%, while the graduation rate is 87%.
Between federal, state and local allocations, a total of $18,585.46 is spent per student in Pocahontas County’s public schools, according to the Balanced Scorecard information.
