The Arts Center to host three exhibits, including MSFF exhibition

ELKINS -- The Arts Center will play host to three exhibits next week: the Mountain State Forest Festival Fall Juried Arts Exhibition, a Student Art Exhibit and "What You See," a solo exhibition by Teresa Mason.
The Seneca Trail Artists Guild is partnering with the Arts Center to present the exhibits.
The opening reception for all three exhibitions will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4.
The MSFF Fall Juried Exhibit will be juried and judged by Judy Foxx, a professional West Virginia artist.
Foxx graduated Summa Cum Laude from West Virginia State College with a BS in Art Education and studied with Stan Sporney and Robert Hutton for her Master of Art degree from Marshall University. For 25 years she made a career of teaching art in public schools at all age levels in Boone County and at Southern West Virginia Community College.
Foxx has worked as a set designer and make-up artist for Appalachian Community Theater and as lighting coordinator for S.T.A.G.E., a Boone County Schools' theater group. She is a member of Tamarack and Allied Artists, and a former member of Gallery Eleven in Charleston. Her artwork can be seen at judyfoxxart.com.
The MSFF Fall Juried Exhibit is for ages 18+. All details and requirements are on the registration form, available on The Arts Center website at www.randolpharts.org and at The Arts Center office.
Students enrolled in primary, secondary and homeschool are invited to participate in the Student Exhibit, which is a free entry for participants.
The drop off for the exhibits is Saturday, Sept. 30 from 9 a.m. to noon. The art drop off is for novice, emerging, students and professional artists.
Mason's solo exhibit will be located in the Maxwell Gallery. She is a portrait artist who commissions her work.
"I want to thank local clients who have generously agreed to loan their portraits to be part of this exhibit," Mason said. "It will be rewarding to have a roomful of my paintings together for the first time! As a commission artist, my paintings go out the door when they are finished. Portraits that are out of state will be represented by prints of the originals.
"Each portrait holds memories for me of the people I have worked with and the subject they wanted me to paint. There have been challenges when reference photos have been scarce. We have shared tears of joy, laughter and sometimes sadness.
"In the past year, my work has taken a new direction thanks in part to a special family. I painted their golden retriever and a short time later, they asked me to paint their daughter. Both portraits will be on display along with a portrait of our daughter. I need to thank my mentor, portrait artist Christine Swann, for her guidance in helping me make that transition."
Mason is a graduate of Bridgeport High School and West Virginia Wesleyan College. She has been selected to teach at the Governor's School, and to paint a portrait of Gov. Jim Justice's hunting dog. She taught art on the high school level in Upshur County and was on the the board at Artistry on Main for two years. Her website is www.TeresaMasonArt.com.
The MSFF Fall Exhibit and "What You See" solo exhibit will be on display through Nov. 15. The Student Juried Art Exhibit will be on display until Oct. 12.
Later in November, The Arts Center will also present an invitational exhibit, "McWhorter Clouds," featuring work completed by William "Bill" McWhorter, who passed in 2016. A solo exhibit titled "Rhopalium" by Emily Prentice, owner of the Mycelium Shop on Davis Avenue, will be on display at the same time in the Maxwell Gallery.
