Tucker schools partially met English testing standards

PARSONS — Tucker County students’ testing results partially met the standard in English Language Arts, according to the state’s Balanced Scorecard results for the 2022-23 school year.

As a whole, Tucker County’s public school students tested at 52% in English Language Arts, which partially met the standard. Statewide, students tested at 55%, which partially met the standard also.

Tucker students tested at 46% in math, which is below the standard. Statewide, students tested at 51% in math, which partially met the standard.

The statistics were released as part of the statewide Balanced Scorecard, provided by the West Virginia Department of Education. The Balanced Scorecard process has been in place since the 2017-18 school year.

Davis Thomas Elementary Middle School did not meet the standard for English Language Arts, at 48%, or for math, at 47%.

Tucker Valley Elementary Middle School partially met the standard for ELA, at 51%, but did not meet the standard for math, at 48%.

Tucker County High School partially met the standard for ELA, at 62%, but did not meet the standard for math, at 44%.

According to the Balanced Scorecard, Tucker County’s public schools have a total enrollment of 960. The county’s attendance rate is 92%, while the graduation rate is 84%.

Between federal, state and local allocations, a total of $15,029.43 is spent per student in Tucker County’s public schools, according to the Balanced Scorecard information.
