Arts Center hosts three exhibits, including MSFF Juried Exhibition

ELKINS -- The Arts Center hosted a reception this week for three exhibits currently on display, including the annual Mountain State Forest Festival Fall Juried Arts Exhibition.
Maid Silvia Anna Marie Ruf and her Maid of Honors, Sophia Shoemaker and Miriam Fath, selected their top choices earlier in the week and those winners were announced during the reception.
The Queen's Choice Award in the Adult Category went to Connie Chapman for her submission of "What's In There?" Shoemaker chose "Selected Barnyard" by William Shaw, and Fath's top choice was "Rain in the Light" by David Phillips.
In the student category, Ruf's Queen's Choice award went to "Enchanted" by Taylor Arnett. Shoemaker chose "Magic" by Rian Holcraft, while Fath's top choice was "A World of B&W" by Miyako Cole.
The overall Best of Show award in the Adult Category went to Teresa Mason for "My Sunshine." Katie Crim took First Place for "Sunrise, Cherry Camp" and Phillips was Second for "Rain in the Light." Shaw's "Barnyard" piece placed Third overall.
Other adult awards were: Davis Trust Price (Autumn by Nancy Mullens); Seneca Trail Artists Guild Special Award (Pilgrimage by John Terry Grace); Depollo Award (Island Layover by Katy Crim); WVWS Award (Morning Light by Deanna Gillum); Honorable Mention (Bride Waiting for Groom Second Comin by Ruth Yang).
The Arts Center's Choice Award in the student category went to "Taylor's Snowy City" by Taylor Arnold. Elementary Student winners were: Trenton Smith (First Place, Positive and Negative Shapes; Gunner McNamar (Second Place, OP Art Hand); Braylee Chidester (Third Place, Geometric Trees); Aurora Isner (Participant, Beautiful).
Middle School Student winners were: Silas Raines (First Place, My Face); Lillian Moore (Second Place, Wings of a Butterfly); Bick Glaspell (Third Place, Comb Paradise); Cole Turner (Participant, Still Life w/Apple).
High School Student winners were: Caleb Roselius (First Place, Fresh Cut); Kate Braden (Second Place, Daisy); Caylee Nesbitt (Third Place, Pure Joy); Lillian Lewis (Participant, Ivy).
Students from Elkins High School, Elkins Middle School, Robert C. Byrd, French Creek Elementary, Lincoln Middle School, ArtsBank, and various homeschool children submitted over 100 pieces of artwork at this year's show.
Sponsors for this year's event included: Jodie Parrack-State Farm, Kiwanis Club of Elkins, Davis Trust Company, West Virginia Watercolor Society, Anonymous, Mountain State Forest Festival, Seneca Trail Artists Guild, and The Arts Center.
"I want to thank all the volunteers that helped with this exhibit," said Arts Center Executive Director Dani Cade. "Many volunteers help year-round, but this exhibit is extensive. Their hard work and dedication to The Arts Center are truly appreciated."
