BEVERLY -- A group of churches are coming together to help raise money for a family who recently suffered a loss due to cancer.
The Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Tygart Valley Ministries, Home of the Soul, Beverly United Methodist, and the Arbor, which are all located in the Beverly area, will be working together to present a benefit dinner for Robert "Bobby" Ware, who recently passed away after a battle with the dread disease.
Ware grew up in Beverly, and leaves behind his wife Amy and daughters Alyssa and Elizabeth.
In an effort to help the family, the churches are hosting a spaghetti dinner on Saturday from 11 am. to 4 p.m. at the Beverly Fire Department.
"Bobby grew up in our community and he was someone everyone knew," Beverly resident and dinner volunteer John Phillips told The Inter-Mountain. "Our churches in town have all come together to work on this dinner in order to help his family at this time of need.
"We have two churches making spaghetti sauce this week, another one making desserts, and another one doing salads. So it's a joint effort from all the volunteers at the churches."
There will be no charge for the dinner, that will feature spaghetti, salad, drink and desert, but donations will be accepted. All money raised will go to the Ware family and any medical or ongoing expenses.
A silent auction will be held in conjunction with the dinner, as a host of local businesses have donated items for the event.
"We've had several people already help out with donations," Phillips said. "I ran into a guy the other day who wanted to be anonymous. He told me he didn't want any spaghetti, but wrote a check for $1,000 to help the family. That was nice of him and shows the kind of people we have in our community."
Ware was the grandson of Robert "Bob" Shiflett and wife Helen of Beverly. He was the nephew of Tory and Vickie Ware and the son-in-law of Rev. Robert Baer.
For anyone unable to attend, contributions can be made by check to the Beverly United Methodist Church at PO Box 130, Beverly WV, 26253. Those making donations by check are asked to write "Ware" in the memo area.
