Clays for a Cause raises $12K

ELKINS -- A new community event raised more than $12,000 to support the Davis Health System Foundation.
The first annual Clays for a Cause sporting clays tournament took place at Stonewall Sporting Clays in Roanoke on Friday.
The money raised will support the DHS Foundation's Funds Caring for Kids campaign, as well as general patient needs.
Since the campaign kicked off during the summer, the Foundation has spent $10,500 for pediatric equipment, supplies and educational resources, including infant CPR "manikins," a fetal Doppler for the Family Birthing Center, a membership to the Beryl Institute that gives providers access to patient experience training, and more.
The tournament featured nine teams -- and several individual attendees -- who rode side-by-sides through the 16-station course, then taking part in a special awards luncheon at the lodge.
The clay shoot was sponsored by Freedom Bank and Vandalia Health.Qualivis Sustainable Workforce Solutions sponsored the awards luncheon, while Kristie Vandevander, CPA, sponsored the coffee and cocoa bar and breakfast. Northern Eagle Distributing was the cart sponsor.
Other local businesses that contributed and participated included Cvechko Insurance Services, Shop 'n Save Express, Arch Resources/Leer South, Jamie Carpenter, DDS, and Elkins Motorsports. DHS employees also joined.
