Inter-Mountain donates to Elkins Fire Department from sales of book

ELKINS -- The Inter-Mountain presented the Elkins Fire Department with a donation this week from the sales of a special book about the history of the department.
The staff of The Inter-Mountain and the Elkins Fire Department teamed up earlier this year to create a special 125th anniversary commemorative hardback book that is still on sale.
EFD Chief Steve Himes said he and his department members were pleased with the book.
"Seeing as how nothing like that's ever been done, before, how do you compress 125 years into anything that you can carry?" Himes said this week. "I feel like the big picture of our history was well-represented.
"Everything that I've heard from anybody about the book, starting with the members, was nothing but good. We're very happy with it."
Himes said The Inter-Mountain's donation will be put to good use by the department.
"We've always got some projects going on," he said. "We're trying to do some communications upgrades, and we've got this new engine coming that we need to get some stuff for. This will definitely help things along."
The Inter-Mountain and the Elkins Fire Department have a long history of working together. Although some of the photos in this book were submitted, the majority of photos came from the Inter-Mountain and Elkins Fire Department archives.
Inter-Mountain Advertising Director Michelle Smith said the book will make a great gift for the holidays.
"We were so happy to work with the Elkins Fire Department on this project, and we're very happy with the result," Smith said.
"There is so much history in the book that I know people will enjoy, whether they're a current resident or someone who's moved away from the area."
The Elkins Fire Department 125th anniversary commemorative hardback book -- and the Tygarts Valley High School 100th Graduation Class hardback book -- may be purchased at The Inter-Mountain offices, which are located at 520 Railroad Avenue in downtown Elkins.
