The Arts Center offering ‘Shakespeareaoke’ event tonight

ELKINS -- The Arts Center is offering the rousing entertainment of a fun-filled "Shakespeareaoke" today.
The event, featuring the Rustic Mechanicals theater troupe, will be offered from 6-9 p.m. this evening at The Arts Center.
It's a BYOB (Bring Your Own Bard) event on as the Rustic Mechanicals host a Shakespeareaoke, a unique open-mic, spoken-word, music-filled, interactive celebration of Shakespeare's work – a party that only the Rustic Mechanicals can throw.
The Rustice Mechanicals Band will be on hand to provide the energy and enthusiasm, but the audience will be the star of the show.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door. Refreshments and light treats will be provided. The Rustic Mechanicals, currently celebrating their 10th anniversary season, were founded by Celi Oliveto in the the summer of 2014. The Rustic Mechanicals is the only troupe of actors in the state dedicated to touring the works of William Shakespeare.
The Mechanicals now tour five shows annually, including their summer West Virginia Shakespeare in the Park(s) outdoor tour and script-in-hand productions called "a Play, a Pie, and a Pint."
The troupe focuses on making Shakespeare's plays accessible to modern audiences by utilizing dynamic and extreme casting techniques paired with Shakespeare's staging conditions.
"We want The Rustic Mechanicals to be a diverse and inclusive organization: accessible, welcoming, and truly representative of the population of West Virginia," the troupe's website states. "We desire to offer equal opportunities to our current and potential audiences and artists."
Previous productions include "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "The Taming of the Shrew," "Much Ado about Nothing," "Macbeth," "The Tempest," "Twelfth Night," "The Merchant of Venice," "Romeo & Juliet," "The Merry Wives of Windsor," "King Lear," "Richard III," "The Comedy of Errors," "Hamlet," "Measure for Measure," "As You Like It," "Julius Caesar," "Titus Andronicus," "Love's Labour's Lost," "Cymbeline," "Henry IV," part one, and the original works "Timeless Romance" and "Toil & Trouble."
