Beverly to host Old Fashioned Christmas event on Saturday

ELKINS -- The town of Beverly will transform to Christmases past when it hosts its annual Old Fashioned Christmas on Saturday

The event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., is one of Beverly Heritage Center's most popular attractions of the year, as visitors from across the region visit the historic town for the celebration.

The Beverly Heritage Center itself will be the site for a host of events throughout the day, including children's activities, a visit from Father Christmas (Victorian Santa), tote bags filled with goodies, free kid's books, live music, stories and more.

"In our main gallery area we will have crafts for kids and we will be giving out tote bags filled with goodies," Beverly Heritage Center Director Marisa Terwilliger told The Inter-Mountain. "The kids can also write a letter to Santa Claus while they are there and admission to the museum is free to everyone on that day.

"We really encourage people to explore our museum, because in the courthouse we have some music playing, and in the bank building we will have Father Christmas, who will also have goodies for kids and some excellent stories."

The historic Odd Fellows Building (IOOF) in Beverly will also host several activities throughout the day.

"In the Odd Fellows Hall we will also have Santa's Workshop and a couple of different crafters and vendors set up," said Terwilliger. "People can buy some Christmas goodies from there.

"We will have some leatherwork goods, crochet goods, pottery, jewelry, arts supplies, candy, and some vintage stuff for sale. We will also have crafts for kids in that building, so parents can let their kids do that while they visit the vendors."

The Beverly Fire Hall will also hold its annual Breakfast with Santa earlier in the morning from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m., and the Presbyterian Church will host a luncheon from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The celebration will be capped off by the annual Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony at 5 p.m.

"We will have the Beverly Elementary Choir singing during our Tree Lighting ceremony," said Terwilliger. "It's going to be a very eventful and exciting day.

"The main focus is the kids and giving them activities to do, but we also want to make it enjoyable for adults at the same time.
