CHARLESTON -- Projects in Randolph and Upshur counties are among 19 paving and several bridge projects included in a bid letting conducted by the West Virginia Division of Highways.
The Randolph County project involves US 33 paving from Upper Isner to Kelly Mountain.
The two Upshur County projects include renovation on the Sheriff Fred Gaudet Bridge on US 33, as well as paving on the Old Weston Road.
Also approved was a project to repave a nearly seven-mile stretch of four-lane Corridor G (US 119) in Mingo County. The project will repave all four lanes of Corridor G from Myrtle to the Logan County line, a distance of 6.85 miles.
In all, the WVDOH accepted bids for 33 projects, including:

Several factors are considered before awarding a bid, including whether a bid falls above or below the WVDOH Engineer's Estimate and by what percentage. In cases where a bid is above the Engineer's Estimate, WVDOH must consider the project need, repercussions of not awarding the project, additional funding sources, and whether sufficient reasons exist for the differences in estimates.
