ELKINS -- Senior Rachel Shryock shined for Elkins in the opening swim meet of the season last week against Grafton and Liberty at Davis & Elkins College's George A. Myles Pool.
Shryock earned first-place finishes as part of the 200-yard medley relay and 200 freestyle relay with sophomore Emma Ujvagi and freshmen Lilly Irons and Lilly Anger in times of 2:00.02 and 1:46.90, respectively, in the 200 freestyle (2:07.44) and the 100 backstroke (1:07.97).
Irons also captured two events for the Lady Tigers --the 50 freestyle (26.73) and 100 butterfly (1:06.13), while Anger was first in the 200 IM (2:29.81), Ujvagi in the 100 freestyle (59.56) and 100 breaststroke (1:16.08) and sophomore Raighan Carte in the 500 freestyle (6:25.17),.
The team of senior Emily Durst, Carte and freshmen Sophia Hornick and Leah Ours captured the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 4:24.52.
The EHS boys were led by junior Isaac Anger, who claimed firsts in the 100 butterfly (55.10) and 100 breaststroke (1:03.15), senior Ashton White, first in the 200 IM (2:34.59) and 100 freestyle (58.67) and junior Andres Masten, who took the 100 backstroke (1:06.84) and 50 freestyle (24.49).
The trio joined senior Brian Jones in taking the 200 medley relay (1:57.17) and 200 freestyle relay (1:46.31).
Jones was also first in the 200 freestyle (2:44.04) and teamed with freshmen Briar Higgins and Kyle Warner and sophomore Bobby Valentine in swimming to first in the 400 freestyle relay (5:05.25).
Elkins returns to action at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 29 at home against Buckhannon-Upshur and Doddridge County.
