ELKINS -- Local residents were forced to dust off their cars and take extra precautions while driving after an early morning snow blanketed Randolph and surrounding counties on Tuesday morning.
Multiple accidents were reported across the region, and several roads were closed for a short period of time in Barbour County early Tuesday.
Randolph County Office of Emergency Management 911 Center Chief of Operations Robert Phillips said the OEM received multiple accident reports during motorists' early morning commutes.
"We had several calls for disabled motorists due to the slick road conditions," Phillips said.
"It was definitely a little slick out there this morning, especially in the mountain areas toward Harman and on Cheat Mountain," he added.
"We had one call for a tractor-and-trailer that had jackknifed over in the Harman area."
Barbour County seemed the hardest-hit among local counties as several roads were completely closed for a short period of time, including Route 250, Route 57 and Route 33.
According to the Barbour County Office of Emergency Management, all of the roads that were closed in the county were only shut down for a brief period of time.
An operator with BCOEM said the road conditions in the county were "horrible" due to the ice on the roads, and that multiple accidents were reported throughout the morning.
Several motor vehicle accidents were reported on Route 250 next to Philip Barbour High School.
Accidents were also reported in Tucker County and Upshur County on Tuesday morning.
No road closures were reported in either of those counties Tuesday, however..
Weather conditions in the area cleared up later in the day on Tuesday. The weather forecast for the remainder of the week is calling for high temperatures into the 50s each day.
The high on Saturday is expected to hit 60 degrees.
