Church ladies group continues holiday fruit basket tradition

BEVERLY -- The Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Ladies Missionary Society are keeping a longtime holiday tradition alive by distributing holiday fruit baskets to community members.
"Our Ladies Group has been doing this tradition for years now," said Trish Thomason, president of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Ladies Missionary Society. "Every year we ask church members if they know of anyone in our community that might need a little cheering up, having a rough year or just to let people know that we care. We also give to all the patients at Lavender Fields in Beverly."
Each basket is filled with apples, oranges, grapes, bananas, candy, raisins and candy canes.
"The baskets in the past were made and wrapped at Campbell's Market by members of the Ladies Group. The baskets recently have been made by Shop n Save on the Beverly Five-Lane, and they do a great job," Thomason said, thanking "the wonderful employees… who were led by store manager Jennifer Rosier."
Thomason said the group members enjoy providing the baskets each Christmas.
"The fruit baskets are part of the group's mission goals, and we have been handing out the beautiful baskets for many years," she said.
"All baskets are picked up at the church by members and they will deliver them. We also reach out to ERCC and other individuals in our local area. Our delivery date is usually the second Saturday of December and we start working on names the first of November."
