MILL CREEK -- A stabbing incident on Sunday afternoon on Conrad Street sent a man and a woman to separate hospitals, Randolph County Sheriff Rob Elbon said.
The incident happened around noon, Elbon said, noting that deputies from the Sheriff's Office and troopers from the West Virginia State Police responded to a 911 call.
"There was a couple who got divorced on Friday, and on Sunday the male subject returned to the residence and stabbed the female in the back," Elbon said. "He then stabbed himself in the chest four times."
The woman was transported to the Davis Medical Center, while the man was sent to a Morgantown hospital, where he is currently under the watch of the Randolph Sheriff's Office, the sheriff said.
Elbon said the names of the parties involved in the incident are not being released at this time. He added that both are expected to recover and be released from their respective hospitals.
"We are currently guarding the male individual in Morgantown, and as soon as he is medically cleared, we will transport him to his new address," Elbon said. "There's a warrant for his arrest that just hasn't been executed yet."
The Randolph County Emergency Squad and Huttonsville/Mill Creek Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene, Elbon said. Deputies Seth Kyle and Seth Davis were the first on the scene for the RCSO, and deputies Brice Cogar and Zachary Pingley later aided with the investigation, which is ongoing.
Elbon also mentioned a Martinsburg incident Sunday in which two state troopers were hospitalized after being shot by a suspect they were serving with an arrest warrant.
"We had a couple fellow officers shot over in Martinsburg and we are praying for them," Elbon told The Inter-Mountain Monday.
Trooper A.A. Bean was shot four times and C.D. Spessert was shot once. Both officers were transported to hospitals, where Bean underwent surgery for serious injuries. Elbon said Spessert was formerly stationed as a state trooper in Elkins.
"Trooper Spessert worked here with us in Randolph County for two or three years," Elbon said. "He was a local officer here and was friends with my sons Lance and Gage. It's just a horrible situation that happened over there.
"From what I've heard (Spessert) is going to be fine, and Trooper Bean is in stable condition. We are thinking about both of them and praying for both."
