St. Joseph’s Hospital’s Gjolberg appointed to chair WVHA board

BUCKHANNON -- Ivar "Skip" Gjolberg, president and chief executive officer of WVU Medicine St. Joseph's Hospital, has been appointed as the chair of the West Virginia Hospital Association board for 2024.
His appointment was formally approved during a House of Delegates meeting on Nov. 6. He will assume the duties on Jan. 1.
Gjolberg has been with St. Joseph's Hospital since 2016. Under his leadership, the hospital has received many honors, including being named one of the top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the United States by the Chartis Center for Rural Health. The hospital was also recognized with the Gold Honors Achievement Award in the WVHA Commitment to Excellence Honors Program.
Gjolberg has served as Chair of the WVHA HOSPAC Committee ,and as a member of the WVHA Legislative Committee.
The WVHA is a not-for-profit organization representing hospitals and health systems across the state. The association was founded in 1925 to serve as the collective voice of the state's hospital community. The mission of the WVHA is to support its members in achieving a strong, healthy West Virginia.
A graduate of Texas A&M University and Texas State University, Gjolberg came to WVU Medicine in 2016 from Cuero Community Hospital in Cuero, Texas, where he served as president and CEO. Prior to his leadership of CCH, he was the chief administrative officer of the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital and held leadership positions with the Hospital Sisters Health System in Wisconsin.
Gjolberg is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the National Rural Health Association. He is active at the national level as the rural representative on the American Hospital Association's Regional Policy Board Region 3, at the state level as chair-elect/treasurer of the WVHA, chair of the WVHA HOSPAC Committee, a member of the WVHA Legislative Committee, and past chair and now member-at-large of the Critical Access Hospital Network.
He has been active in his community as chair of the Upshur County Economic Development Corporation, with the Lions Club, the United Way, Boy Scouts of America, St. Joseph's Youth Ministry, the Knights of Columbus, and was a founder of the Holy Rosary Parish Men's Group.
In 2019, the Buckhannon-Upshur Chamber of Commerce named Gjolberg its Business Man of the Year.
