ELKINS -- The local Toys for Tots campaign is heading down the back stretch, but there's still time to make a donation to this year's toy distribution event in Randolph County.

The annual fundraising event, which distributes toys to more than 200 families and 500 children in the county, will be accepting toys at collection boxes across Randolph County until Monday.

"There is still time for everyone to donate toys, and any extra we collect we will donate to one of the other campaigns," Elkins Parks and Recreation Youth Development Coordinator Owen Peet said Tuesday.

Toy collection boxes are currently set up at the Elkins Walmart, Family Dollar, and all of the Dollar General stores in the county. Monetary donations, which are used explicitly to support the campaign, can be made at elkins-wv-toysfortots.org.

Several business in town are also conducting toys drives for the campaign, including Elkins Physical Therapy Service (Elkins and Valley Bend), Davis Medical Center, Randolph County Senior Center (Elkins, Harman, Mill Creek), Elkins City Hall, Youth Health Services, Hair Graphics, Phil Gainer Community Center, Mt. Vernon 4-H Club, MegaCorp Logistics, Freedom Bank, Buckhannon Toyota, Jen Kesling State Farm, Farm Credit of Virginia, Mountain Gymnastics Academy, Top Knot Hair, Elkins-Randolph County YMCA, Saint-Gobain, WDNE, Ollie's Bargain Outlet and Elkins Purple Majesties.

The organization recently held a toy drive at the Elkins Walmart that was a huge success, Peet said.

"It went really, really well, and was a big boost to this year's campaign. We want to thank everyone who helped with the event and donated toys," he said.

Toys will be distributed to approved applicants on Dec. 22 at the Phil Gainer Community Center. Applicants with the last name A through G will be from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m., while applicants H through M will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The Elkins Police Department will once again be volunteering to help with the distribution.
