Winter Gala event set for Dec. 8

By Edgar Kelley 2 min read

ELKINS -- The GFWC Junior Woman's Club of Elkins is teaming with Elks Lodge No. 1135 to host the ninth annual Winter Gala on Friday, Dec. 8 at the Elks Country Club.

Only 200 tickets are being sold for the event, which will run from 8 p.m. until midnight. A limited number of tickets remain for the semi-formal dance that will feature the band Rick K. Road Trip from Morgantown.

"Tickets to the event are a hot commodity and we only have a few left," Junior Woman's Club President Angie Goff told The Inter-Mountain. "Rick K. has performed for us for the past seven years and he always puts on a great show."

Patrons are asked to not wear jeans to the event, and everyone in attendance will have a free photo taken with an opportunity to purchase the image through Robyn Smith Photography.

"This event is kind of a play off the Holly Ball that the hospital auxiliary used to put on, with a twist of the Mountain State Forest Festival Queen's Ball and what used to be the Cabaret," Goff said. "There's really not a formal event type thing for 21 and over to do during the holidays. so we started doing the Winter Gala, and it's really taken off."

Money collected from ticket sales will go toward the Mary K. Heineman Scholarship that is awarded to high school seniors from Elkins High School, Tygarts Valley High School, Harman and Pickens.

"The purpose of this fundraiser is for the Junior Woman's Club to raise money for the Mary K. Heineman Scholarship," Goff said. "Last year, between the four high schools in Randolph County, we gave $2,500 away in scholarships."

Scholarship winners in 2022 were Sara Ratley (Elkins High School), Caitlyn Rennix (Tygarts Valley High School), Tessa Propst (Harman), and Shania Tiffner (Pickens).

There will be a cash bar at the Winter Gala and heavy hors d'oeuvres will be provided.

"The Elks are wonderful to us and the money they make off the bar will get put back into the community with various donations," said Goff. "The Elks have been a wonderful partner with this event."
