10 candidates file for Upshur seats

BUCKHANNON -- A total of 10 candidates have filed to run for Upshur County government offices in the May 14 primary election.

Incumbent Upshur County Commissioner Kristie G. Tenney, a Republican from Buckhannon, has filed to run for re-election. She is being challenged by Scott H. Williams, a Republican from Buckhannon.

Two candidates have filed to run for the Upshur County Commission's unexpired term of two years.

Doug Bush, a Republican from Buckhannon, who was appointed to the position followed the unexpected death of Terry Cutright, has filed to run for the seat, as has Patrick Kyle Lane, a Republican from Buckhannon.

Incumbent Upshur County Sheriff Mike Coffman, a Republican from Buckhannon, has filed to run for the office in the May primary. He was appointed to the position in April 2023, after Sheriff Virgil Miller passed away unexpectedly. He is being challenged by Chester Zickefoose, a Republican from Buckhannon.

Incumbent Upshur County Prosecuting Attorney Bryan S. Hinkle, a Republican from Buckhannon, has filed to run for re-election, as has incumbent Upshur County Assessor Dustin "Dusty" Zickefoose, a Republican from Buckhannon.

Incumbent Division 1 Magistrate Mark Davis, and incumbent Division 2 Magistrate Alan M. Suder, have both filed to run for re-election.

The candidate filing period will remain open until Jan. 27.

The primary election is scheduled for May 14. Early voting will take place from May 1 to May 11.

The general election will be held on Nov. 5, with early voting scheduled for Oct. 23 through Nov. 2.
