BUCKHANNON -- Three candidates will be on the ballot competing for the Upshur County Sheriff's seat in the May 14 primary election.
Incumbent Upshur County Sheriff Mike Coffman, a Republican from Buckhannon, has filed to run for the office in the May primary. He was appointed to the position in April 2023, after Sheriff Virgil Miller passed away unexpectedly.
Coffman is being challenged by Chester Zickefoose, a Republican from Buckhannon, and Timothy "Timmy" Kelley, a Republican from Rock Cave.
Incumbent Upshur County Commissioner Kristie G. Tenney, a Republican from Buckhannon, has filed to run for re-election. She is being challenged by Scott H. Williams, a Republican from Buckhannon.
Three candidates have filed to run for the Upshur County Commission's unexpired term of two years.
Doug Bush, a Republican from Buckhannon, who was appointed to the position following the unexpected death of Terry Cutright, has filed to run for the seat, as has Patrick Kyle Lane, a Republican from Buckhannon, and Jesse Davidson, a Republican from Kanawha Head.
In the non-partisan Upshur County Board of Education race, Rob Hinton of Ellamore and William A. "Willie" Parker of Buckhannon will compete for one of the two open seats, while Susan M. King and Neil W. Leput, both of Buckhannon, will face off for the other seat.
In the race for the District 65 House of Delegates seat, incumbent Republican Carl "Robbie" Martin, of Buckhannon, has filed to run for re-election, and is being challenged by Democrat Matthew Kerner of Buckhannon.
Meanwhile, District 64 Republican incumbent Adam Burkhammer is currently unopposed in seeking re-election.
Incumbent Upshur County Prosecuting Attorney Bryan S. Hinkle, a Republican from Buckhannon, has filed to run for re-election, as has incumbent Upshur County Assessor Dustin "Dusty" Zickefoose, a Republican from Buckhannon. They are both running unopposed.
Incumbent Division 1 Magistrate Mark Davis, and incumbent Division 2 Magistrate Alan M. Suder, have both filed to run for re-election. Also on the ballot for the Division 1 seat will be challenger Kay Hurst.
Dale P. Bennett, a Republican from Tallmansville, has filed to run for the office of county surveyor.
Mateal Poling, of Buckhannon, and Amber N., Stripling, of Buckhannon, have filed to run for a Conservation District Supervisor seat.
The primary election is scheduled for May 14. Early voting will take place from May 1 to May 11.
The general election will be held on Nov. 5, with early voting scheduled for Oct. 23 through Nov. 2.
