BUCKHANNON -- The City of Buckhannon has announced the filing dates for the upcoming 2024 city election.
City Recorder Randall Sanders released details about the May 14 city election. On the ballot will be the mayor's position, a four-year term, and three Buckhannon City Council seats, each for a four-year term.
The seats are currently held by Mayor Robbie Skinner III, who has served since 2020, and City Council members Pam Bucklew, Jack Reger and CJ Rylands.
The filing period for the city election will begin on Monday, Jan. 8, and will run through Saturday, Jan. 27.
The hours fro in-person filing on the final day, Jan. 27, will be from 9 a.m. until noon at City Hall.
The address to mail in announcement certificates is City Hall, 70 E. Main St., Buckhannon, WV 26201.
Mailed certificates of announcements must be postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service before midnight on Saturday, Jan. 27.
The last day for candidates to withdrew from the election will be Tuesday, Feb. 13.
The drawing for position on the ballot will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 9 a.m. at the Upshur County Courthouse, located in the County Clerk's Office, at 40 West Main Street in Buckhannon.
Only registered voters can participate in the city election, and they can only vote in the precinct in which they are registered.

Precinct 8: Buckhannon Academy Elementary School
Precinct 9: City Hall
Precinct 12: Fred W. Eberle Technical Center
Precinct 14: Buckhannon Academy Elementary School
