BUCKHANNON -- Upshur County deputies arrested a fugitive from justice Monday, officials said.
Coleman Ray Young Jr., 56, was arrested on an outstanding full extradition felony warrant for possession of cocaine from Virginia, and is also facing a new charge of possession of cocaine stemming from Monday's incident. He is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $3,000 bond on the Upshur County charge.
Also arrested Monday was Mark Andrew Maxwell, 53, on a charge of possession of methamphetamine. He is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $3,000 bond.
According to a Tuesday press release from the Upshur County Sheriff's Office, on Monday, deputies observed a silver 2008 Dodge Dakota speeding and "crossing the yellow/white lines multiple times."
Deputies initiated a traffic stop near the Buckhannon Antique Mall on Route 20 North, the release states. The driver of the Dakota was identified as Maxwell, while the passenger was identified as Young.
The Upshur Communications Center advised that Young had a full extradition felony warrant outstanding from Virginia, according to the release. After Young was placed in handcuffs, deputies allegedly found a "small bag that contained a hard white substance in his shirt. (He) admitted that it was cocaine."
Maxwell admitted to having a "methamphetamine smoking device in his pocket," the release states. While searching Maxwell, deputies found "multiple snort straws, aluminum foil with burnt residue on it, and a bag with a white crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine." Deputies also found cash, allegedly belonging to Young, in the vehicle.
