RANDOLPH COUNTY -- Bond has been set at a quarter of a million dollars cash for a man who allegedly threatened to shoot a judge "between the eyes."
Brandon Lee Leggett, 38, of Albright, is charged with intimidation of and retaliation against public officers and employees. He is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $250,000 cash-only bond, set by Randolph County Magistrate Mike Dyer.
According to the criminal complaint, prepared by Trooper Brenton K. Riffle of the West Virginia State Police, Riffle was dispatched on Jan. 4 to investigate "threats that occurred at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail."
A TVRJ employee told Riffle that Leggett "threatened to shoot Preston County Circuit Judge (Steven) Shaffer between the eyes when he got out of jail," the complaint states.
Riffle obtained a full incident report from the jail, which stated that Leggett was threatening to shoot Shaffer "because it was the judge's fault he was there," according to the complaint.
Riffle also obtained video and audio recordings related to the incident from the TVRJ booking department, the complaint states. Leggett can allegedly be "heard on camera stating he wished 'the judge would f****** die,'" and saying "when I get out of here, I'm gonna shoot him between the eyes."
According to published accounts, the State Police Explosive Response Team was called to Albright, in Preston County, after a suspected explosive device was found in a driveway.
Leggett was charged with illegal possession of destructive devices, explosive materials or incendiary devices, a felony.
