BUCKHANNON -- Just one candidate filed to run for office on Monday during the first day of the filing period for the May 14 Buckhannon City Election.
Incumbent Jack Reger was the lone person to file at Buckhannon City Hall and is seeking re-election for City Council.
Residents heading out to the polls for the May election will be casting votes for mayor and a total of three Buckhannon City Council seats.
The mayoral seat is currently held by Robbie Skinner III, while the council terms that are expiring include that of Reger, Pam Bucklew and C.J. Rylands. All of the aforementioned seats are for four-year terms.
The filing period for the election will run through Saturday, Jan. 27. Those wishing to file can do so Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on Jan. 27 from 9 a.m. until noon.
Filing can also be completed via mail by sending announcement certificates to the Buckhannon City Hall, 70 East Main Street, Buckhannon, WV, 26201. Mailed certificates of announcements must be postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service before midnight on Jan. 27.
The final day for candidates to withdraw from the election will be Tuesday, Feb. 13. The drawing for position on the ballot will be Feb. 20 at 9 a.m. in the County Clerk's Office of the Upshur County Courthouse.
The voting locations for the May Buckhannon City Election will include; Buckhannon Academy Elementary School (Precinct 8), Buckhannon City Hall (Precinct 9), Fred W. Eberle Technical Center (Precinct 12), and Buckhannon Academy Elementary School (Precinct 14).
