PHILIPPI - A Barbour County grand jury handed down 16 indictments Monday, for alleged crimes including murder.
Brian Edward Kennedy, 45, of Grafton, was indicted on one count of murder.
In September, a criminal complaint stated that officers from the Barbour County Sheriff's Office and the West Virginia State Police responded to a scene in the Dayton Park area of Philippi. They found a woman dead at the scene, apparently from stabbing.
Kennedy was taken into custody at the scene, police said.
The other indictments included:
Clifton Russell Findley, 47, was indicted on one count of making terroristic threats.
According to the criminal complaint, in January Findley was at the Barbour County Sheriff's Department in Philippi, when he threatened to shoot a Philippi police officer in the face.
Jason Westwood Lego, 43, of Belington, was indicted on two counts of wanton endangerment, prohibited person in possession of a firearm and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
According to the criminal complaint, two employees of B's Recovery Service were attempting to repossess a Ford Econoline van on Abilene Drive in January, when Lego exited the residence and allegedly shot at the agents.
"The vehicle was unhooked from the rollback and both agents left the property," the complaint states.
The agents told police they had knocked on the door of the residence but had heard no response. They said as they began to move the vehicle, Lego exited the home and "brandished a pistol" at them, firing four to five shots, "some in the air, some toward the wood line, and one shot in the direction of the recovery agents."
Jaymes Richard Arbogast, 29, of Elkins was indicted on one charge of soliciting a minor by computer.
Troopers with the Barbour County detachment of the West Virginia State Police said that in June 2023, Arbogast had sent explicit messages to a teen in Barbour County that he knew to be underage, according to the criminal complaint.
Nicholas Ryan Jones, 36, of Belington was indicted on three counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
James Bernard Armstrong, of Belington, was indicted on three counts of wanton endangerment.
Caleb Andrew Beverly, of Philippi, was indicted on two counts of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.
Timothy Lee Cogar, of Belington, was indicted for fleeing in a vehicle with reckless indifference.
William Russell Cooley, of Hopwood, Pennsylvania, was indicted for obtaining property in return for a worthless check.
Daniel Martin Farmer, of Belington, was indicted for burglary.
Russell Allen Grow, of Moatsville, was indicted for driving while license revoked for driving under the influence of alcohol, third offense.
Delbert Edgar Mayle, of Philippi, was indicted on three counts of forgery and three counts of uttering.
Shayne Matthew Murray, of Newburg, was indicted for burglary and destruction of property.
Shawn Paul Price, of Philippi, was indicted for fleeing in a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
Jacob Isaac Reed, of Buckhannon, was indicted for failure to appear.
Drayvn Christoper White-Grow, of Phillipi, was indicted for burglary and battery.
Presentments to the Barbour County grand jury were made by Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Lynn Phillips and Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Kelsey Gross. The Grand Jury was presided over by Judge Shawn D. Nines of the 19th Judicial Circuit.
Arraignments will be held on Wednesday, March 6, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Barbour County Courtroom.
All defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
