Elkins Police Department welcomes its newest officer

ELKINS -- The Elkins Police Department is welcoming a new officer to the force.
Caleb Elmore was sworn in as a probationary police officer for the Elkins Police Department on Feb. 12.
Elmore completed civil service testing in November and will begin training with the police department before heading off to basic training at the West Virginia State Police Academy near Charleston at the end of this month.
His basic training will last for 16 weeks. After graduation, newly certified EPD officers are paired with a department field training officer for three additional months before being allowed to operate as a solo officer.
Anyone interested in joining the Elkins Police Department is invited to the next civil service testing.
The EPD is now recruiting and has a testing date set for March 30. Applicants must be between the ages of 18-45 on March 30. Applications are due by 4 p.m., Friday, March 22.
Information for the testing date is as follows:
Testing Date: Saturday, March 30.
Fitness Test: 9 a.m.
Written Test: 12:30 p.m.
Interviews: 2 p.m.
New hires will receive benefits including health insurance, retirement, take-home cruiser and more. West Virginia Certified Officers can earn up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives, and Uncertified Officers can earn up to $4,500.
