ELKINS -- All local chocolate lovers take note: an especially sweet fundraiser will be offered next week.
The sixth annual Chocolate Friend-zy will take place Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the Phil Gainer Community Center from 6:30-8 p.m.
The Friends of the Elkins-Randolph County Public Library -- also known as the Elkins Bookhounds -- invite the public to attend the event and enjoy decadent chocolate desserts of all kinds.
"This is such a fun event, timed just before Valentine's Day," said Bookhounds President Maria Bray. "Visitors will get to sample and purchase homemade chocolate candies, cookies, cakes, fudge and more.
"Flutist Katy McClane and her students also will play live music," Bray said. "And you can take a chance on winning Valentine-themed raffle baskets for book lovers."
Anyone, regardless of membership, may purchase raffle tickets at the event. The tickets can be purchased one at a time, or seven for a special price, or 15 for a special price.
Those with active paid Friends of the Elkins-Randolph County Public Library memberships will receive three free raffle tickets.
Winning tickets will be drawn at 8:30 p.m., but you need not be present at that time to win.
New Friends of the Elkins-Randolph County Public Library memberships and renewals are especially welcome and may be paid at the door.
All money raised from Tuesday's event will go to the building fund for expanding and renovating the library on Davis Avenue. Building designs plans will be on display at Tuesday's event.
The library, located on Davis Avenue, has been closed since December 2021, due to water damage caused by problems with the facility's roof. Repairs to the library were scheduled to be done during the 2021 Christmas break, while employees were out of the building. Upon their return to the facility, however, it was discovered that the roof had leaked, causing extensive damage to the facility.
Rather than going forward with the original plan of making repairs and doing slight renovations to the library, officials decided to do a complete overhaul of the building.
Officials have projected the library's renovation and expansion project will cost between $3.5 to $4 million.
The Friends of the Elkins-Randolph County Public Library are a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote and support awareness and understanding of the library, and its programs, resources, and needs.
