ELKINS -- The incumbent Randolph County Circuit Court judge will face a challenger in the May 14 primary.
Current Circuit Court Judge David Wilmoth's term will end at the close of 2024. Wilmoth's position (Division 1), along with the seat of the newly added second judge in Randolph County (Division 2), will both be on the ballot in May. Wilmoth has filed to run for re-election.
He will be challenged by Phil Isner, a civil litigation attorney and the managing partner of Isner Law Office in Elkins.
Four candidates have filed to run for Randolph County's second circuit judge position in the primary.
For the second circuit judge position, known as Division 2, the candidates include Frank P. Bush Jr., Ray Lamora III, William "Ty" Nestor and Jaymie Godwin Wilfong.
Bush is a former prosecuting attorney in Randolph County, while Lamora is a former prosecuting attorney in Tucker County who currently works for Legal Aid of West Virginia.
Nestor recently announced that he would not seek re-election to the state legislature in order to run for Randolph's second circuit judge position. Godwin Wilfong formerly served as a circuit judge and family court judge in Randolph County.
In the 18th Judicial Circuit, constituting Upshur and Lewis counties, incumbent Judge Kurt Hall and incumbent Judge Jacob Reger have filed to run for re-election. They are running unopposed for their seats.
In the 22nd Judicial Circuit, constituting Tucker and Preston counties, four candidates are on the ballot for the circuit judge positions. For the Division 1 seat, Anne Marie Armstrong, Hilary M. Bright and Samuel Hess will be on the ballot. Steven L. Shaffer is the lone candidate for the Division 1 seat.
In the 23rd Judicial Circuit, constituting Barbour and Taylor counties, Division 1 incumbent Judge Shawn D. Nines has filed to run for re-election.
Thomas B. Hoxie, who was appointed in 2023, will be on the May ballot for the Division 2 seat, as will his challenger, Allison Clark Iapalucci.
In the 28th Judicial Circuit, constituting Pocahontas and Greenbrier counties, two candidates have filed for the two circuit judge positions, David Hammer in Division 1 and Bridget Cohee in Division 2.
The primary election is scheduled for May 14. Early voting will take place from May 1 to May 11.
The general election will be held on Nov. 5, with early voting scheduled for Oct. 23 through Nov. 2.
