HAMBLETON -- State officials will be looking for public input on the Parsons to Davis section of Corridor H during a special meeting later this month.
The West Virginia Division of Highways will offer the Public Informational Workshop for the Parsons to Davis Project on Tuesday, Feb. 27 from 4-7 p.m. at Tucker County High School in Hambleton.
"This project involves the construction of an approximately 9-mile new location, four-lane, divided highway, with partial control of access, and will be a component of Appalachian Highway Corridor H (US 48)," the meeting announcement states. "This meeting complies with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act requirements."
No formal presentation will be made during the meeting, officials said.
"The public will be afforded the opportunity to ask questions and submit written comments on the project," the announcement states. "A handout with project details will be available at the meeting and on the WVDOH website."
Officials from the DOH and the Federal Highways Administration will be on hand to provide information and answer questions.
Online comments are due by Wednesday, March 27. Those wishing to file written comments may send them to:
Travis Long, Director
Technical Support Division,
West Virginia Division of Highways,
1334 Smith Street,
Charleston, West Virginia 25301.
The West Virginia Division of Highways confirmed last year that it is providing data for an alternate northern route for the section of Corridor H to be built between Parsons and Davis.
The DOH was preparing a supplemental Environmental Impact Statement to submit to the Federal Highway Administration that includes a Blackwater Avoidance Alternative route that runs north of the towns of Davis and Thomas.
The alternate route is in addition to the DOH's Revised Original Preferred Alternative, which would connect just east of Parsons, crossing over Backbone Mountain, to connect with the existing portion of Corridor H at Davis.
An online petition asking that an alternate northern route for Corridor H from Parsons to Davis be considered has been signed by thousands of people.
