Pocahontas man accused of murder

Walker

ELKINS – A Hillsboro man has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly shooting and killing a woman in Marlinton and being apprehended in Randolph County Monday night.

Mason Slava Walker, 23, is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail without bond.

He is accused of fatally shooting Camie Rider in the parking lot of the Marathon Little General Store in Marlinton.

According to the criminal complaint, at 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Pocahontas County 911 received at least two calls reporting a shooting at the convenience store, noting that the alleged shooter had fled the scene in a black vehicle.

Once on scene, Sgt. M.M. Massie of the Pocahontas County detachment of the West Virginia State Police observed EMS workers removing a woman from a vehicle, the complaint states. Massie was then approached by an older gentleman who told the officer his son had shot the woman, and that his son’s name was Mason Walker.

The man told the officer his son had been involved with Rider and that they had separated, according to the complaint. He told officers the woman’s name was Camie Rider. He said the couple had a 2-year old baby but he wasn’t sure where the baby was.

According to the complaint, police located the baby alone at the residence shared by Walker and Rider, unattended by anyone. Massie spoke with eight other witnesses who saw or heard the shooting take place.

The complaint states that state troopers with the West Virginia State Police located Walker’s vehicle and executed a traffic stop in Valley Head. Inside Walker’s vehicle, troopers located a Cobra Arms model CLB 38 handgun that contained two fired cartridges.

According to the criminal complaint, officers were able to secure video from the City of Marlington at the intersection of Route 219 and Route 39. Police viewed the video and observed Walker pull into the convenience store’s parking lot.

At one point, the video reportedly shows Walker opening the passenger side door of Rider’s car and leaning inside his vehicle before shutting her vehicle’s door. The video allegedly shows Walker pointing his arm toward the driver’s side front window of Rider’s vehicle, followed by a muzzle flash. After a short pause, the video reportedly shows Walker pointing his arm toward the window again and another muzzle flash.

According to the complaint,Walker was then seen on video getting back into his vehicle and fleeing north on U.S. Route 219.

The complaint states that Rider was pronounced deceased at 11:22 p.m.
