ELKINS — The Randolph County Board of Education selected Dr. Shawn Dilly as the county’s new Superintendent of Schools Tuesday night during a special meeting at the county’s Central Office.

Dilly will replace sitting superintendent Debra Schmidlen, whose request for retirement was approved by the Randolph County BOE in early February. Her last day on the job will be June 30.

Dilly is currently Director General of Emirates National Schools in Abu Dhabi, UAE. He also previously served as Superintendent of Schools in Mineral County.

Dilly’s salary will be $120,000, with an incremental increase of $5,000 over the next four years.

The Randolph County BOE was joined by two county office directors, a member from the teacher’s union, two service personnel union members, one county elementary school principal, one county secondary principal, and the county’s finance officer during Tuesday’s meeting. Three candidates were interviewed for the position during the meeting.

The Inter-Mountain has spoken with Dr. Dilly and will release more information soon.

Starting at $3.92/week.
