BARBOUR COUNTY -- Police were searching for a suspect Friday evening after a fatal shooting near the Philippi Covered Bridge.
The shooting happened at about 5 p.m. Friday afternoon, according to the Philippi Police Department.
The victim had not yet been identified as of Friday evening.
Police were searching for a dark blue or dark gray Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. Law enforcement officials were searching in Barbour, Randolph, Upshur and Tucker counties. The West Virginia State Police and multiple county sheriff departments and town police departments were aiding in the search.
A notification being shared on scanner traffic Friday evening stated:
"Active Shooter: Barbour County State Police advised shooting near Covered Bridge in Barbour County. One person DOS (dead on scene). One suspect fled the scene."
