ELKINS -- The newly restored Tygart Hotel's Grand Opening will be Friday, part of a weekend celebration featuring art, history, dining and live music.
Woodlands Development & Lending and the Oxley House will join the Tygart for a three-day Grand Opening event that will kick off with a reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday evening. The reception will focus on the artists who are featured in the hotel.
"This weekend has been a long time coming and we are very excited to host our Grand Opening event," Woodlands Executive Director Dave Clark told The Inter-Mountain Tuesday. "From our perspective this event is not just about the Tygart, though, it's about all the good stuff that is going on in Elkins. And we want to celebrate that."
A slew of activities are scheduled on Friday and will begin with a 9 a.m. announcement from Woodlands about a new broadband project coming to the area. Then at 10:30 a.m., Woodlands will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the hotel restoration and community collaboration.
"We are going to start the day off by announcing a big broadband effort that we are spearheading that will put a fiber network from Elkins to Davis," Clark said. "We will then have the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, a block party and tours of the building, as well as downtown, that afternoon. We will then have live music later in the evening and into the night."
A Downtown Elkins Street Fair will take place from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Davis Avenue. Those taking part in the Fair will have a chance to discover the heart of Elkins with local crafts, shopping and more.
Oxley House, which is the Tygart Hotel's onsite restaurant and lounge, will open at 4 p.m. Visitors will be able to sample exclusive lounge delights and craft beverages. Oxley House will remain open on Friday until 11 p.m. and reservations are strongly encouraged.
"Oxley is going to do a short menu for this weekend and unveil their full menu next week," said Clark. "I think the restaurant and bar opening up is going to be really nice for everyone."
A Grand Opening Block Party featuring Juice Newsom and the Groove will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in a heated party tent outside the hotel. Visitors attending will have an opportunity to dance to live music on the streets of downtown Elkins.
The day's activities will conclude when Oxley House hosts an After Party with Tiffany and Joel Franks from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The event will be in the Oxley House Cocktail Bar and will feature live music and drinks.
On Saturday, the Oxley House will keep the weekend celebration going by offering its lounge menu, paired with signature drinks from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. After Saturday's event, Oxley House will pause operations from Sunday until Wednesday before launching their full menu on Thursday, March 28.
"We've had nothing but good compliments about the hotel's restoration," Clark said. "It was very much a community wide effort and it wouldn't have happened without the support of the city and a lot of other local entities who really stepped up to help out with this project. It really would not have happened if not for them."
