COALTON - A Coalton Elementary School student was struck by a vehicle in a parking lot outside the school Tuesday.
On Tuesday afternoon, deputies responded to the report of a "vehicle/pedestrian collision" in the parking lot area across from Coalton Elementary School, according to a Randolph County Sheriff's Office release.
"A vehicle was traveling through the parking lot, and while the driver was looking to the left to return to Broadway Lane in front of the school, (an) elementary student came from the right of the truck and was struck, causing injury to the elementary school student," the release states.
"The student was transported by Randolph County EMS to" Davis Medical Center for treatment, according to the release. No names were released, and the incident is still under investigation.
On Wednesday, Randolph County Sheriff Rob Elbon told The Inter-Mountain that the student is a 5-year-old girl who was transported Tuesday evening to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
The RCSO's Deputy Hebb, Corporal Carr, Sgt. Pennington and Deputy Davis responded at the scene. Also assisting at the scene were members of the Coalton Volunteer Fire Department.
